SophieSophie Gonzalez
Medical Student

Sophie is a medical student at Drexel University College of Medicine. She joined the Meucci Lab in the Spring of 2020 as awardee of the NIMH ‘Interdisciplinary and Translational Research Training in neuroHIV’ summer program. During this time, she became familiar with dendritic spine analysis using different types of software. Sophie earned a B.S. in Biology from Wake Forest University in 2018 and a M.S. in Biomedical Sciences from Drexel University College of Medicine in 2019. As an undergrad, she was involved in research projects on earthworm behavior and management of an online DNA database. Driven by her interest in the molecular basis of neurocognitive impairment in HIV patients, Sophie has been assisting senior members of the Meucci group with computational studies investigating dendritic spine changes in animal and cellular models of HAND – in preparation to a full wet lab experience as soon as the pandemic restrictions are released.
